Bye World

Everyone had warned me of the Ironman Blues, I can confirm Im feeling a little lost without a training program to follow ... I suspect Coach knew this as I have a debrief today ... and I suspect we will start planning future goals, just smaller ones for now as life will get very busy again and I have a new wife to pamper.

Unless ofcourse I get a magic slot for Kona (find out April 14th), in which case bring on the Kona Ironman, October 12th, 2013

... will you join me ?

Lots of love
CANTAB Chris

Unfortunately the Kona dream was not to be there in 2013, however I did secure sufficient brownie points to sign up for the NZ Ironman 2014.  This time I got to do it with my very good friend Gussy.  And of course my beautiful wife was by my side during the journey and at the line, together with family and friends!

  2. Chris,

WOW. You are amazing so big ups to you girl! I must admit when I saw you fly past me working at Penalty Box 1 I thought "bloody hell, she is honking it". I must admit I wasn't expecting to see you so soon as I was planning on standing on the side of the road to look out for you but you passed me too soon. Great to see you yell out, wave and then carry on your merry way with a big smile on your face. The volunteer I was working with said "I think your friend seems to be enjoying herself a little too much" which made me laugh. I noticed all the amazing support signs when we drove out to the Penalty Boxes at 7am and proudly said "I know Cantab Chris" as the others in the car commented about all your support signs. I even met two of your support crew members before race start - they were everywhere! Gutted I missed you finish but you didn't seem to be low on supporters. I saw the first women finish and Steve Farrell cross the line so I went into the recovery area and congratulated him as I knew he'd done well. Having a 'All Access' pass has its perks. I've got to tell you more people talk about the athletes who come in after 10pm or just before the midnight cut off. I remember seeing Cam Brown 3 years ago returning to the finish line later in the night to cheer on the last few athletes who literally had to sprint down the finish shoot to make the cut off - those are amazing athletes. Finally, what an amazing experience and journey in your life to look back on.

I look forward to seeing back out training soon.

  3. And what an awesome journey it was.

I've loved every minute training with you and it was an absolute pleasure to be part of the support crew. (Yes I'm available to hire for future ironman events :)

Looking forward to the next adventure, and many more after it.

Cantab Chris - YOU ARE AN IRONMAN - Well done !!
